The Letterpress Process

Letterpress printing is a centuries-old traditional type of relief printmaking -- ink is applied to a raised plate, which is then pressed into paper. This results in a stunning deep impression called a "bite." For every color in the design, a separate pass through the press is required, with careful registration between layers.

In keeping with my training as a fine-art printmaker, I use a hand crank etching style press and hand brayers to apply ink. Everything starts as a sketch, which I digitize and have made into a polymer plate for printing.

Letterpress is a great choice for anything that needs to impress -- from wedding invitations to business cards.
